Transparency

28x10cm, stab binding

2018

Exploring transparency, I found myself on a very interesting journey. The transparency of paper and fabric are better recognized when layered. What is behind plays a large role in how transparent the piece appears. Manipulation, sewing, paint and wax do much to change the degree of lucidity.

At the same time, nature offers much transparency. Trees, branches and leaves in their layers give a feeling of seeing through, of translucency. Fog and weather lay over, creating opacity.

And, of course transparency plays a large role in communication, dealing with honesty and open-mindedness, but that hints at a longer journey.
