Moss Studies

I live near the forest and am surrounded by moss.  In the grass, on the stone walls, on and around trees.  Everywhere.  They are truly beautiful tiny plants.  I have also been reading Robin Wall Kimmerer’s book Gathering Moss, which has added so much to my knowledge of them.  

This year I have decided to recreate moss in the form of an artist book.  I found the recycled quilt to be the perfect holding ground to represent them.

I started out with tiny coptic bound and embroidered books, then went on to try many other book structures.  I used the painted quilt as page, sometimes adding paper in between. 

The sizes of the books are very small ranging from 6x12cm to 14x22cm.
